I am so excited about the December Photo Project this year. It’s definitely the most wonderful time of the year for the blog—the promise of a post every day. I’m particularly giddy this year, though, because if all goes well, I’ll be posting at a new blog home. (Jason’s working hard to get things up and running, and I’m loving what I’ve seen so far.)
So, yeah, the new blog is a combination of a wild hare and an idea that’s been brewing for quite a while. I’m not promising a radical change—I’ll still be me, writing and photographing and thinking out loud as I do—but I am definitely looking forward to kicking around and finding inspiration in a new space. More to come . . .

Playing in the fresh air was a wonderful way to spend part of Christmas morning.
Simon’s favorite part of the Christmas story: “And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”
And Ian’s: “Happ Burr, Jeeeszz!”
“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” May we never cease to be awed by the power of the Incarnation.

We got the boys digital (toy?) cameras this year. Although Ian didn’t quite get it, the camera was a huge hit with Simon.

After several really trying days in a row, we had a dreamy morning this morning. The boys played really well together—a Christmas miracle!
Two things to note about this picture: 1) This is one of the rare times that Ian was the initiator of brotherly affection. I would say this pic is much more typical. 2) When I went to fetch Ian from his bed this morning, he had once again taken off his jammies (third morning in a row; luckily he has not yet discovered the joy of removing his diaper). This mismatched set of jammies is actually the outfit that he picked out and insisted on wearing today for day clothes. Whatever, I say.

I truly have the best husband. Today he gave me an early Christmas present: an afternoon at the spa. It was relaxing; it was luxurious; it is deeply appreciated.

Simon watching the Grinch (also called “that naughty green lady”—it took me a while to figure that one out).

It is so, so, so good to have dear friends back in town for the holidays (and wedding!).
Simon snapped a few (hundred) frames too, which had the littler ones giggling.

We went in for a regular midwife appointment today. Baby’s heart rate was elevated, so they hooked me up to the monitor for awhile to make sure she wasn’t stressed. All is well, it seems. And now I have my very own set of velcro straps (one pink and one blue)—just add it to the list of weird things to carry around in my purse toward the end of pregnancy.
Jason took a picture of me all hooked up to the monitor that I actually didn’t hate. Simon, though, said, “Mommy, you look kind of different in that picture, don’t you?” When I asked him what he meant, he said, “Your face looks kind of weird.” So, sorry, Internet, you won’t be seeing that one today.

The kids at Redeemer had their Christmas program tonight. (Simon had practiced with the choir, but he has been sick the past couple of days and had to miss the performance tonight.) They did great, with plenty of sweet antics to make the parents and grandparents chuckle. Our little friend Josh recited the whole Christmas story. It was kind of a rap, and it was awesome.
