lincoln-ites take their coffee very seriously. they debate on whether or not the mill or the coffee roaster has better coffee and claim they can tell whether coffee has been burnt or gone stale. there's the coffee nazi at the coffee roaster, who only sells coffee to those who are worthy. there’s the mill where yuppies and pseudo-intellectuals like to hang. there's the coffee house that allows smokers to have heat. and now, starbucks is coming. many mill-ites are howling that, with the emergence of starbucks, lincoln’s coffee stock will plummet and coffee as we know it will be tainted forever! the horror!
i scoff at these claims and welcome starbucks with open arms. i wait with eager anticipation of being able to step to the counter and order my first short! decaf! cappuccino! granted, starbucks coffee has been available at our barnes and noble stores for a long time, but there is something thrilling about being able to enter a real starbucks store to purchase a cappuccino like millions of others do every day.
i am the first to speak frustration regarding lincoln’s lack of unique, un-franchised, non-tv showing restaurants. but heck! i have no fear that the snobs will continue to go to the roaster, the yuppies to the mill, and the smokers to the coffee house. but really folks, let’s enjoy being a part of the greater world for once… there are few opportunities to do so in middle america.
i didn't know we were getting a starbucks. where will it be?
perhaps it will help sieve out some of those people not cultured enough to be at the good coffee haunts. ;)
or you could by coffee online from Chatty. Hey charity, wanna go in with me and we can both get a discount from rarecoffee.com?
I'm so excited! Of course I will not give up my nights at the mill or buying my coffee from the roaster, but every now and then a cup of starbucks is in order. Lincoln's needed one for a long time now.
nice scathing labels, ct. ouch!
that's right, karen, let's all live in coffee harmony. i agree.
the new starbucks will be at 12th & P next to cliff's.
rt, scathing? no, i just never get to be cyncial. plus, i hang out at all of those places (except for the roaster, where you get in and get out). just wanted to chide against the hoyty-toyties who wish the demise of starbucks. ;)
you know i agree with you. just giving you a hard time. ; ) give me a frappacino (sp?) anyday -- heaven in a bottle. mmmm.
mmm...frappuccino...

Boo Starbucks! That chant echoes in my head as I read about Charity's willingness to welcome Starbucks with open arms as a generous man would open his door for a stranger to enter his home to eat and rest.
But what if the stranger secretly held the weapons that "Corporate America" uses to squash small businesses like the way a child steps on a June bug without pity or remorse? If I were that generous man (and I am labeling myself as such for the sake of this argument), then I would say to that stranger, "Starbucks, you take your secret weapons and ill intentions and sleep outside tonight!" Mill Yuppies Forever!
the starbucks is here! the starbucks is here!
And I am enjoying the best dang latte I've had (in Lincoln) for a looooonng time. Made the trip just now with two of my favorite coworkers and got blisters from my flipflops. Still, mmmmm, totally worth it.
