bunnies, rabbits, and hares

Our friend Kate is staying with my parents in Norfolk, NE while she completes her family practice rotation. She arrived a week and a half ago, and my parents left on a trip a day or two after. She has called me wondering where to find various things around the house, plastic bags, pasta, etc. She is getting glimpse into the world in which I grew up. I find I have to shed light on the habits of the woman who is my mom. Her tupperware is organized and put into specific cupboards by shape and size, in which you can always and easily find matching lids. It's truly a wonder!

Last night on the phone, Kate and I shared a moment that is my mom, and that has brought great delight in the form of harrassment of my mother to my brother and I. She wondered about my mom's bunnie collection that graces the house during the Easter season. When I lived in my folk's home in the early 90's there were about 50-60 bunnies. Kate counted last night, and they have multiplied as bunnies do. There are now 131 to count! I'm betting she can hit 150 in the next 3 years. I don't know what I'll do when she passes away years from now and I get the bunnie collection. Perhaps a museum.

Ha! I love Mary Talsma. I think even more than the bunnies, the wise men that get closer and closer to the nativity set crack me up.

I've said this before, but I think had I grown up in a home where I had to put a quilted toaster cover on the toaster and *then* put the toaster away in the cupboard (every time!), I'd be in the asylum. :D But as it is, I just find it all extremely charming.

I love it even more that Kate actually counted the bunnies. That totally cracks me up and is highly indicative of differences between personality types!

(Way to blog, Brook!)
