A game of sorts
I saw this on a friend’s Facebook page and thought it looked like fun. The way it’s supposed to go is that you post your name and I’ll do all these things for each of you, but when I first read it, I misunderstood the rules: I thought that for the first commenter I would do the first thing, for the second commenter I would do the second thing and so on. So on my blog we’re going to play it my way because that sounds easier to me. Of course, I may not have nine readers, so in that case maybe I’ll play by the original rules—ah the possibilities!
Post your name and I will do each of the following:
1. I’ll respond with something random about you.
2. I’ll tell you which song or movie you reminds me of you.
3. I’ll pick a color I feel suits you.
4. I’ll say something that only makes sense to you and me (if possible. If not, I’ll say something that only makes sense to me.)
5. I’ll tell you my first memory of you.
6. I’ll tell you what animal you remind me of.
7. I’ll ask you something I’ve always wondered about you.
8. I’ll tell you my favorite thing about you.
9. I’ll tell you my least favorite thing about you. No need to fear #9.

me first! me first!
Andy
I’m a little worried about the least favorite thing!
RT
I’m in, only I’m afraid of number 9, too. : )
Renae
Charity:
1. You are my favorite person to shop with.
2. High Fidelity
3. Yellow
4. Idaho (although more people know the story, only you *really* know Idaho)
5. Lou brought you over for dinner when Brook was in town from Zambia.
6. Gazelle
7. Why did you choose me for that focus group that you did with RT and Julie Cutler?
8. Ah, so many, but among them is that you laugh out loud when you watch TV alone.
9. You don’t like beans.
Renae
Andy:
1. You were the first Sabbatarian (sp?) I ever met.
2. “Fly” by Eddie from Ohio
3. Navy blue
4. I’m sorry I thought you were going to get me arrested.
5. Joie and I sneaking around at the Farmers’ Market trying to figure out if you and Charity were hitting it off.
6. Seal
7. How did you and Joie become friends?
8. You like to linger long and talk with good friends and good food and drink.
9. You and your wife live too far away.
Renae
Rebecca:
1. You brought us toilet paper the first night we moved in.
2. “Blessed Be the Name”
3. Purple
4. I can’t say—I’m laughing to hard on.
5. You were at Charity’s for that focus group, and I couldn’t figure out how you seemed to know so much about me. You kept mentioning Lou, but it was only later that I realized that you were Rebecca Tredway.
6. Owl
7. What would you write about if you could write for a living?
8. Again, so, so many things I love about you. Here’s just one, but it’s hard to articulate, so bear with me: I like that random things make you feel familial toward us (e.g., the time that Jason had theater tickets that you didn’t know about and it came over the Zion e-mail and you said you felt like that was something you should have known about).
9. My ring on your phone is too quiet.
Brook
Me next!
Lindsey
I think this is most fun with people you know really well, but Renae just threw herself to the masses with this one so I’M going to volunteer myself. With the caveat of if you can’t come up with something, don’t feel like you have to answer it.
andy
Charity and I really laughed at the arrested comment!
Bethany
I want to play, too!
Jamie
Here’s a curve. This is Bryan, (not Jamie). Good luck! By the way, that was one cute wooky!
Renae
Brook:
1. I still owe you $7 of goods and services repayment.
2. “Days of Elijah”
3. Green
4. You’re peeing in front of the ladies.
5. You were sitting on the floor in the entryway/not-living room at 2025 while Lou cleaned the bathroom.
6. Dolphin
7. When did you change your mind about me?
8. Among the thousands, you are the best gift thinker upper and giver that I’ve ever known. Hands down.
9. You’re not here; you were wrenched away.
Renae
Lindsey:
1. You are one of 4 Lindsdey(ay)s that I know and see fairly regularly. I can’t think of any Lindseys that I knew prior to now.
2. Pride and Prejudice
3. Purple (I know I already used it for RT, but, as you pointed out somewhere (Facebook maybe?), it’s very in this season)
4. I liked Ondine’s best; I can’t believe Preston made it so far.
5. That one’s tough because I think I actually stalked your blog for quite a while before I met you in person. The first place I’m sure I remember seeing you/knowing you were you was at the Chois’ wedding (though we didn’t interact at all then).
6. Beaver
7. Are you self-taught when it comes to cooking?
8. You like to watch reality TV on Bravo.
9. I only get to see traces of you (e.g., your Sunday school classroom) and not the real you.
Renae
Bethany:
1. I think I’ve told you this, but Whitney of Pop Candy reminds me so much of you that every once in a while I read something and think you’d be interested in it but then get confused and think that I heard it from you in the first place (though it’s kind of a moot point since I know you read Pop Candy yourself).
2. O Brother, Where Art Thou?
3. Peacock blue
4. Oh very nice, friend, oh yes, Precious, very nice.
5. I came over to your house with Kate Venable (I think she was giving you guitar lessons, but we came over for some other reason than that). You were probably a freshman or sophomore in high school at the time.
6. Kangaroo
7. How do you find new music? What are you listening to lately?
8. That you seem to have no idea how cool you are; in fact, sometimes I get a little embarrassed at how much I like you.
9. I didn’t get together with you often enough when you lived in Lincoln, and now you’re far away.
Renae
Bryan:
Thanks for the wookie comment: you still set the bar for Halloween costumes.
1. You were the second mascot-type celebrity that I had met in my life (but the only Lil’ Red). Actually, I don’t think I knew that you were Lil’ Red until you weren’t anymore.
2. The Last Samurai
3. Orange
4. Shoot. I’m stumped: Ther Erngerish terk ther ers ert, ernd wer purt therm ern (yep, that only makes sense to me).
5. I must have known you before this because I remember running into you and Brian Wachter on campus once and wondering if you’d remember me or not. No, wait! I think my first memories of you might actually be from the dessert exchange that we did a few times with Brook and whoever your roommate was at the time. You made a killer peach pie.
6. Zebra
7. Do you write music?
8. Okay, I don’t know how to articulate this in a way that sounds like a compliment, but I really do mean it to be one: one of my favorite things about you is that you are less straightlaced than I would have thought before I knew you well. For example, we were at Scooter’s once, and you asked me how it was going; I responded that I was having a bad day and that I really wanted to say a bad word, and instead of being shocked or appalled you said, “Oh yeah? Which one?” I loved you for that.
9. I realize this is becoming a theme, but that doesn’t make it any less true: You moved too far away.
Bethany
That made my day!!
(Also, is #8 purely rhetorical? Cause no one has answered the questions you posed to them, and far be it from me to violate some sort of unspoken meme know-how that I’m unaware of by answering.)
Jamie
That was fantastically encouraging and fun. Thanks. The English do take their r’s out, while we put them in, interesting observation. btw, I feel a bit lumped into a Japanese genre with the choice of Last Samurai, but I don’t mind.
And strangely enough, I actually “finished” my first song (which means I actually wrote down both chords and lyrics, asked my wife to sing with me, and recorded it for posterity’s sake) until now, I really never remembered much of what I wrote or played when it was original. But this song was a song about Jones and his life right now, and I thought I may want to look back and remember that.
We are looking forward to seeing you guys when we are back in about a month! Crazy. -bryan
Renae
@Bethany: No! Not rhetorical. I really do want to know.
@Bryan: Yeah, I was a little disappointed in myself for that movie. It’s only because we borrowed it from you. Let’s see: how about that jellyfish movie that Jason made you watch?
Bethany
Ok then, in answer to your question, I mostly find new music via word of mouth. Either people telling me, or I read about them on Facebook, or on the forums I read, or on Pop Candy, etc. Basically I just keep my eyes and ears open. I really am way out of the current music “scene”; I’ve put almost no time and effort into finding new bands since getting married and moving…it just doesn’t appeal to me as much to spend my energy on it, though I still do enjoy discovering new music.
Anyway, new-ish (to me, at least) music I’ve been enjoying: Bon Iver, Jens Lekman, Fleet Foxes, She & Him, Helios, Slim Pickens (band we heard in Seattle, but I can’t find online anywhere at the moment), the latest Indelible Grace album(s).
