Down on the farm

Hey, does anybody know of a co-op type farm near Lincoln? (Brenda, I’m looking at you.) I would like to look into buying fresh, buying local as much as possible this year.

Well I don’t know how “co-op” it is, but my aunt and uncle grow EVERYTHING (and I mean everything from multiple kinds of potatoes, onions, peppers, herbs, corn, beans, etc) on a couple acres out in Gretna. They live here in Lincoln and generally throughout the summer buckets of whatever end up on our porch and we find ourselves either a)canning, or b) calling people and saying: “Hey, do you want 10 tomatoes? And by 10 I mean 20?” Anyway, if you’re interested, I could pass that on as we’ve been trying to persuade them to start selling some of it because they’re a family of 3 with produce enough for a small town.

hey, i don’t know of any coops, but i do know that susan meckel from church participates in one, so she might have some info if you’re feeling brave and wanna call!
also, i bought “simply in season” right before we left and i LOVE IT. quickly becoming my favorite cookbook.. it would go well with your desire to cook and eat local and in season. its very informational, as well.

I can hook you up. It’s my job to link local farmers with local eaters! send me an email or give me a call. There are lots of options. Farmers’ Markets, Community Supported Agriculture (CSAs), on-farm stores, on-line farmers’ markets with pick-up services. There is a lot a great food out there!
